The history of the Cathedral begins on December 25, 1812. This was the day that the last soldiers of Napoleons' 600,000 man army were driven out of Russia. Emperor Alexander I signed a Manifesto ordering the construction of a magnificent Cathedral in honor of Christ the Savior in Moscow as a thanksgiving to God and to honor the victorious Russian army. The Cathedral barbarously destroyed on December 5 1931 has been rebuilt in 1994-2000.
The most interesting museum of Europe is in the Seaplane Harbour, where the newly opened exhibition in the historical seaplane hangars tells you stories from under the water, on the water and over the water. You can climb into the submarine Lembit, look at the seaplane Short 184, voyage on the icebreaker Suur Tõll and learn about historical vessels or military equipment. Seaplane simulator, diving deep under the water, café Maru and the museum shop are among some of the things waiting for guests. The Tartu Observatory was founded at the Imperial University of Dorpat as it was reopened in 1802. The observatory building was completed in 1810 on the Toome hill in Dorpat. The instruments were installed in 1814 by von Struve who subsequently started observations. In 1824, a 9" Fraunhofer refractor arrived, the largest achromatic telescope in the world at the time. When von Struve began assembling his Geodetic Arc in 1816, the doorstep of the observatory became its first point. UNESCO World Heritage Site number 1187.

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is an orthodox cathedral in the Tallinn Old Town, Estonia. It was built to a design by Mikhail Preobrazhensky in a typical Russian Revival style between 1894 and 1900, during the period when the country was part of the Russian Empire. The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is Tallinn's largest and grandest orthodox cupola cathedral. It is dedicated to Saint Alexander Nevsky who in 1242 won the Battle of the Ice on Lake Peipus, in the territorial waters of present-day Estonia. The late Russian patriarch, Alexis II, started his priestly ministry in the church.

According to local legend, the well boils over when the witches of Tuhala make a sauna below the ground and beat each other with birch branches, causing a commotion on the surface. Water starts to spout up from the well and flood the area when excess water from the Mahtra swamp fills up the underground river and the overflowing river water seeks an escape through the well. The quantity of water flowing through the Tuhala River must be at least 5000 liters per second in order for the river to overflow. However, the water spouting out of the well comes at only 100 liters per second.

In 1828 Nicholas I of Russia mandated the building of the sea fortress of Patarei. Completed in 1840, it is located on area of 4 hectares (10 acres). Over the years it has had different functions – in 1867 functioning as barracks, in 1920 as a prison and since 2007 as a Culture Park.
The Kruzenshtern or Krusenstern is a four masted barque and tall ship that was built in 1926 at Geestemünde in Bremerhaven, Germany as the Padua (named after the Italian city). She was surrendered to the USSR in 1946 as war reparation and renamed after the early 19th century Baltic German explorer in Russian service, Adam Johann Krusenstern (1770–1846). She is now a Russian Navy sail training ship.

The Hill of Crosses is a site of pilgrimage about 12 km north of the city of Šiauliai, in northern Lithuania. The precise origin of the practice of leaving crosses on the hill is uncertain, but it is believed that the first crosses were placed on the former Jurgaičiai or Domantai hill fort after the 1831 Uprising. Over the centuries, not only crosses, but giant crucifixes, carvings of Lithuanian patriots, statues of the Virgin Mary and thousands of tiny effigies and rosaries have been brought here by Catholic pilgrims. The number of crosses is unknown, but estimates put it at about 55,000 in 1990 and 100,000 in 2006.
The frigate Shtandart was the first ship of Russia's Baltic fleet. Her keel was laid on April 24, 1703 at the Olonetsky shipyard near Olonets by the decree of Tsar Peter I and orders issued by commander Aleksandr Menshikov. She was the first flagship of the Imperial Russian Navy and was in service until 1727. In 1994 a small group of sailing enthusiasts led by Vladimir Martus started construction of an exact replica of the ship. The "Shtandart Project" launched an exact replica of the frigate on September 4, 1999.

Lev Borodulin (b. 1933) was exposed to photography at an early age. At the age of four, he met N. Svishchev-Paola, who took a portrait of him and inspired in him a fierce love of photography. Borodulin graduated from the department of Art at The Moscow Institute of Printing and started learning photography at the end of 1940s. He began working as a photo reporter for Ogonyok Magazine in the 1950s, where he shared a laboratory with Dmitry Baltermants, who greatly influenced Borodulin's work. Along with photography masters such as Baltermants and Alexander Rodchenko, Borodulin made strides to define photography as not only a documentative medium, but also an art form. In recent years Borodulin’s “Parade” was chosen by Bill Clinton as one of the photographs to hang in the Oval Office. His images of divers, runners, fencers, rowers, boxers, footballers, swimmers and athletes of all kinds are some of the most important sporting photographs of the twentieth century. Borodulin spent much of his life living in Moscow, but later relocated to Israel, where he recently celebrated his 80th birthday.
The Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant came online in December 1983. Lithuania agreed to close the plant as part of its accession agreement to the European Union. Proposals have been made to construct a new nuclear power plant at the same site.
The word "Preved" in this VR panorama's title is a Russian internet slang for surprise, derived from Russian word 'Privet' (a misspelling of privet, Russian: Привет - "Hi!"). It was made infamous by a heavily circulated picture of a modified John Lurie watercolor, "Bear Surprise" that was shown at Roebling Hall Gallery, Chelsea in January 2006. Its popularity was stoked by emails and blogs, features a man and a woman having sex in the clearing of a forest, when suddenly a bear comes out, and with paws raised, says "Surprise!" in the original version, or "Preved!" in the Russian adaptation.
